Types of People

Here is a short list describing the types of people in English. 

 

Fashion victim – someone who wears fashionable clothes that make him/her look unattractive

Fashionista – a designer or a follower of the latest fashion trends

Clotheshorse – a conspicuously dressy person

Tomboy – a girl who behaves in a boyish manner

Golden boy – a very successful man

Geek – a socially inept person

Busy body – a person too interested in the affairs of other people

Grumpy – a bad-tempered person

Slave-driver – a person who makes another person work very hard

Handful – a person who is difficult to control or deal with

Soulmate – a perfect match romantically for another person

Homemaker – a person, especially a woman, who manages and takes care of a home

Cream of the crop – the best of a group of similar people

Breadwinner – a person who earns money to support his/her family

New blood – new members of a group admitted to invigorate it

Foodie – a person with a particular interest in food

Buff – a person who knows a lot about a particular subject

Handyman – a person who knows how to repair small things inside and outside the house

Upper crust – people who have the highest social position

Frump – a woman who wears old-fashioned clothes that make her look unattractive

Soft-touch – someone who is easily persuaded into doing things you want

Wuss – a coward

Wimp – a person who is not strong and confident

Blabbermouth – a person who talks too much

Chatterbox – a person, especially a child, who talks a lot

Awkward customer – a difficult person to deal with

Gate crasher – a person who attends without invitation

Silly Billy – a silly or foolish person

Smart Alec – a person who behaves as if he/she knows everything

Bookworm – a person who enjoys reading

Road hog – a motorist who drives recklessly and doesn’t think about other drivers

Litter lout – a person who leaves litter in public places

Stowaway – a person who hides on a vehicle to travel without paying

Party pooper - a person who spoils other people’s fun

Clever clogs – someone who is very clever that is annoying

Egghead – a person, usually a man, who is very intelligent and is interested only in studying

Eager beaver – a person who is willing to work hard

Every Tom, Dick, and Harry – everyone

Nosy Parker – a nosy person

Peeping Tom – a man who tries to secretly watch women when they are wearing no clothes

Worrywart – a person who worries a lot about unimportant things

Weight-watcher – a person who is concerned about his/her weight, especially who is on a diet

Carrot top – a person who has red hair

Hunk – a strong, attractive man

A big wig – an important person

An oddball – an eccentric person

Weirdo – a person whose behavior seems strange

Newbie – an inexperienced participant in some activity

Womanizer – ladies’ man

Fairweather friend – a person whose friendship cannot be relied on in times of difficulty

Fresh-air fiend – a person who enjoys being outdoors or having good ventilation when indoors

Live wire – someone who has a lot of energy and is very active

Slowcoach – someone, especially a child, who is doing something too slowly

A know-all – a person who thinks he/she knows more than other people

Sponger – a person who lives off other people by taking advantage of their generosity

Cubicle rat – a person who works in a cubicle in an open office

Creature of habit – a person who always does the same things in the same way

A man of few words – a man or a woman that doesn’t talk very much

The salt of the earth – a person who is good, kind, and honest

Walking encyclopedia – a very knowledgeable person

Swot – if you refer to someone as swot, you don’t like the fact that he/she studies very hard

Butter-fingers – a person who drops things they are carrying

Cheapskate – a person who is not willing to spend money

Scrooge – a person who spends as little money as possible

Spendthrift – a person who spends too much money

Culture -vulture – a person considered to be excessively interested in the arts

Party animal – a person who loves parties

Stay-at-home – a stay-at-home person

Armchair traveler – a person who knows a lot about traveling without having direct experience of it

Armchair expert – a person who knows a subject without having known much about it

Globe trotter – a person who travels widely

Rolling stone – a person who is not willing to settle in one place for long

Nervous wreck – a person suffering from a lot of stress

Unknown quantity – a person (or a thing) whose abilities, powers, or effects are not yet known

Bright spark – a person who is smart and full of energy

Daredevil – a person who likes taking risks

Lone wolf – a person who prefers to be alone

Cold fish – a person considered to be unfriendly

Don Juan – a man who seduces a lot of women

Wet blanket - a person who spoils other people’s fun

Black sheep – a person considered to have brought shame to his/her family

Fare dodger – a person who travels on public transport without paying the fare

Drifter – a person who moves from place to place, without any fixed job or home

Down-and-out – a person without money, job, or home

Life and soul – a person who is lively and amusing at a party

Couch potato – a person who doesn’t exercise much and watches a lot of television

Killjoy - a person who spoils other people’s fun

Spoilsport – a person who spoils other people’s fun

Prodigy – a child or a young person who has a great ability

Savant – a person of great natural ability

Whizz-kid – a young person who is very smart and successful
